“I’m known to have a lot of hobbies—from riding BMX to building things in machine shops to filming weddings and concerts. I realize that time is finite and there is so much I want to learn.     “Sometimes, that means I don’t sleep; I stay up late to read up on something or teach myself how to use a new tool or how to edit a video. I feel like I know a lot of people who say, ‘One day, I’ll learn how to skateboard. One day I’ll learn how to paint.’ But they never do. They always put it off for tomorrow. I can’t live like that. If I like something, I have to learn it immediately.     “And even when I can buy something, I prefer to learn how to build it because in the process I learn about myself and the thing I’m building.”     “Of all the things you’ve done, what has been the most satisfying?”     “I feel that everything I do is an attempt to connect people and make their lives better. Sometimes, I would get an email from Iceland, ‘Thank you for filming that band in a basement in Boston. They would never tour here in Iceland, and that video is the only way I get to experience them.     “I’m actually a computer scientist. I used to work in government contracting and I had no idea who was using the technology and what the point of it was.     “So I took a job developing an app that helps women track their menstrual cycle and predicts when they would be most fertile. Basically, it helps couples conceive faster, and I can see the fruits of my labor. People would email me and say, ‘Hey, we were able to get pregnant in two days. We had been trying for months.’“
